May Christians Get Tattoos?

Leviticus (Heb.vayikra) 19:28

19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor imprint any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

This is the source in the Hebrew Bible for the prohibition of Hebrews (Jews) getting tattoos, but how does it pertain to followers of Christ? It would be nice if the answer was simply a matter of yes or no, forbidden or not forbidden but sadly there is not a single, solitary unified opinion amongst Christian leaders today as to whether tattoos are permissible or not. Many denominations forbid tattoos and tattooing while others see them as a matter of fact and do not forbid them.

With all of this discord and disagreement, how is a believer in Christ supposed to know what the true intention for him or her? One question that you can ask yourself is what would Jesus have done?

Would Jesus himself have had a tattoo?
