not like a lot but like a Cross, Sacred heart, dove or a peace sign.
those seem pretty religious but is it anywhere in the Bible that says that they are wrong??

Peace sign? …*grumble* liberal hippy *grumble* *grumble*
I’m just wondering if any of these “body is a temple” quoting people have pierced ears.
I don’t recall a single word in the New Testament (the basis for Christianity) that says anything against (or even about!) tattoos.
And, back to the body/ temple thing. Who says a tattoo is a desecration? In many cultures, tattooing is a religious rite of passage.
To answer the question immediately: It’s not a sin to get a tattoo. There is nothing inherently wrong with a tattoo. There is something wrong (very wrong) with idolatry and satanism, both of which can be dangerously intertwined with tattooing. Many of the arguments against tattoos delve into idolatry and satanism, making some odd argument that all tattoos are of this form. Sure, a tattoo can be such things, but the vast majority (such as the one you are thinking of) aren’t. Can a tattoo go the other way, perhaps so far as to be a symbol of ones faith in God? I say yes!
Edit: The most common verse people point to when discussing tattoos is Leviticus 19:28:
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
–Leviticus 19:28 (NIV)
Here is something else in the same chapter, the verse before:
27 Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
These were commands to the Levites, and as you can see by reading these all of these Old Covenant commands, they speak very much against idolatry (I would recommend reading all of Leviticus 19). It can be problematic when scripture is quoted out of context or without regard to other scripture, and this is one case where pointing to a single verse has created an inaccurate legalism.
It was wrong for the Israelites because of the law that God gave to them. (I think you can read about it somewhere in Leviticus.)
There’s nothing against it for Christians.
Consider carefully why you want a tattoo though. If you’re getting it because you are being rebellious then that’s wrong. Don’t get a tattoo for the wrong reasons.
Yes.
Lev 19:28 in the Old Testament:
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
The New Testament says your body is the temple of Holy Spirit. Don’t put grafitti on it.
1 Cor 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
It depends on your convictions. I honestly don’t think God’s going to say “You got a tattoo. I officially hate you.” I know my mom doesn’t think it’s right, but a lot of people I know at church have them. My youth pastor has one on his right calf! So I guess it depends on what you feel comfortable with. If it’s not going to harm your relationship with God and you feel perfectly alright with it then fine. But if you feel you shouldn’t do it then maybe you shouldn’t.
God says that your body is His temple. Do you think he wants graffiti on his temple?
1Cr 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1Cr 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Your body is a temple for the holy spirit to dwell in. Do not do anything to damage your body in any way.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” (NIV)
it is a gray area, it’s a sin if you are prideful of it, want to flaunt it, or get many tattoos.. one tattoos not really a problem, but just don’t let hype get to you
Catholicism says that as long as it’s appropriate, tattoos are okay
I’d assume most other religions are like that too, but certainly some are against it.
If you are going by the bible then yes it is wrong to get a tattoo but I’m pretty sure that it would be ok to get religious tattoos but its funny how they have religious tattoos though it contradicts itself lol
No the bible says its wrong, but self respecting american christians who are normal are also fascists and will hate you for being different
if its wrong, I would like for someone to give a valide argument as to why exactly its ‘wrong’
Read Romans Ch 14 in your favorite translation. figure out the principal that Paul is teaching, then apply it to your situation.
It’s wrong for just about anyone to get a tattoo.
99% of them look stupid.
It’s wrong for anyone to get a tattoo.
Oh you hypocritical Christians! Take select verses from Scripture and twist them to suit your own agenda; let the judging begin! Get off the pulpit, get that “log” out of your eye, and remember that nobody died and made you Our King. I’m a Christian woman who raised two strong Christian sons. My college graduation gift to each was a Christian tattoo. Both chose different style crosses using the spikes, crown of thorns, blood droplets, and robe of ascension positioned on the calf of the leg; no ugly graffiti and no desecration of flesh. They are masterfully done and make a fantastic witness tool to ALL who see them – no words need to precede. You see both are being asked about their tattoos and are able to share their personal stories of Salvation through Christ and explain this symbol of love. What you hypocrites call “destruction” to the temple of the Holy Spirit, I call “advertising” FOR the Holy Spirit and God’s Kingdom. What a great way to “Honor God with your body”. So, if you’re overweight, too skinny, pierce your ears, dye your hair, take prescription meds, etc., YOU have marred/destroyed your Temple. Let’s look at Leviticus 19:28…”do not cut your body”. Okay, anyone who’s ever undergone invasive surgery loses their right to be a Christian! No wonder non-Christians are totally turned off by those who “claim” to be Christians. We are commanded by scripture to LOVE ONE ANOTHER – tattooed or not! By the way, my Christian tattoo has been designed and my beautiful “ad” will appear on my Holy Spirit-filled Temple this summer – PTL!
The reference in the Old Testament to tattoos was for the Israelite people because the pagan people were doing the tattooing and piercing when someone died to try and bring favor to their gods for themselves and the person who died.
(Lev. 19:27-29 – ” ‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. Do not cut your bodies FOR THE DEAD or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness.) As for the, our body is a Temple for the Holy Spirit, you are absolutely right. But for those who agree with that also should look at those who have piercings of any kind. If you cause someone to stumble by getting the tattoo, don’t get it, if you treat the tattoo like it is above all things then don’t get it. If you pray about it and still feel that it is the right thing to do then go ahead and do it. But if you are only/mostly doing it to get at someone then definitely DO NOT get it.
I have a tatto and I am a strong christian my pastor thinks its awesome that I have a tattoo of a bible verse. As for the your body is a temple thing yea it is but a tattoo doesnt desecrate the temple i am healthy and take care of my body I simply choose to decorate my temple
